Brood Maps

Over the past century, Entomologists have gathered data from numerous sources and have been successful in constructing "Brood Maps" for the Magicicada species which are generally accurate in forecasting an emergence in designated areas on particular years. These maps are the APPROXIMATE boundaries of the listed broods and many of these areas are shrinking due to the constant growth and pressure of urbanization. Also keep in mind the possibility of "straggling" where some Magicicadas have a tendency to emerge either a year too early or too late.
