This large cicada is a very common dusk singer.

Tibicen cannicularis

This smaller species of Annual Cicada makes a sound similar to a circular saw.  They prefer pine trees as host plants.

Adult Tibicens begin appearing during the heat of summer and their sounds can be heard into mid-fall.  Generally, they begin appearing late June and can last through mid-October.

On good years, these types of cicadas emerge together and can also make a deafening chorus.  Tibicens also inhabit cities as well as forests.
